Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 uses familiar components such as Web Service endpoints, Windows Workflow Foundation, SQL Server Reporting Services, and more; making it a general purpose platform for any line-of-business applications.
The kit drills into development details and explains how .NET-based developers can interact with the Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform. It includes videos, presentations, hands-on labs, and a Virtual PC environment for practicing.
Familiarity with the .NET Framework, Microsoft Visual C#, Jscript, Microsoft SQL Server and general Web development is recommended.
See the table of content and the various videos and presentations online on MSDN:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc720132.aspx

Cheers, Ross

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-07-08T09:30:55Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Virtual Machine Sample Data "Diff File" Now Available

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM sample data VPC differentiation disk adds demonstration data and other demo-related content to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 RTM Virtual Machine. James is the director of the Dynamics business in Australia. IT News Australia has just published this article on key considerations when implementing a CRM system and the article discusses local customer examples, like mid-market manufacturer Imaxeon. They switched from Salesforce.com to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 a couple of years ago. They are about to upgrade to CRM 4.0 and have realised great business benefits from their Dynamics CRM implementation.
Read on at: http://www.itnews.com.au/Feature/4556,guest-column-implementing-the-right-crm-system.aspx
Well done James! This white paper explores how, with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, an ISV can quickly build, deploy and manage line-of-business applications.
Click here to go to the download page on microsoft.com
Cheers, Ross

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-05-09T04:57:35Z</dcterms:modified>

Revealing the Relationships in CRM

I recently came across a really interesting add-on product for Microsoft Dynamics CRM from a partner called SalesCentric (contact them here). SalesCentric have products that visually enhance Microsoft Dynamics CRM. You can see Account, Opportunity and Contact examples below, just click on the small picture to see a large version:

Account Chart

Opportunity Chart

Contact Chart

You can even view videos of these in action from the SalesCentric webs site at http://www.salescentric.com/videos.htm
According to SalesCentric, their Relationship Charts for Microsoft Dynamics CRM will forever increase the value customers achieve from CRM. When sales people have relationships with key decision makers, they sell more, and when you market to customers you know and understand, response rates improve. Relationship Charts helps you achieve both, to increase Net Profit.
An interesting tool that should be able to increase the overall value of the CRM investment some of your clients have made and are making. If you successfully deploy this, drop me a line and let me know about how it is making a difference.
Cheers, Ross

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-05-02T03:02:40Z</dcterms:modified>

Integrating Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics ERP products

I sometimes get asked by partners about connectors from Microsoft between CRM and our own ERP products. Today's note is to give you an update on this front.
Customers who want to integrate Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics ERP products can choose from integration solutions offered by several Dynamics partners, including Scribe, Celenia and VisionPeople. Recently at Convergence 2008, several new integration solutions were made available from Hitachi, Tectura and several other partners. We continue to evaluate market and customer needs for connectors for Dynamics CRM and Dynamics ERP products from Microsoft.
As may be noted, previously Microsoft had discussed plans to deliver connectors that integrate Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics ERP products. Some customers and partners may be wondering what the current positioning of “we continue to evaluate market and customer needs” means. Or more simply, if a customer wants to implement an end-to-end Dynamics CRM and ERP solution why can’t they rely on Microsoft’s technical expertise to build the connectors between Dynamics products?
Microsoft has previously delivered a connector for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 to Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0. The feedback from customers is that they would like to see more flexibility and simpler administration built into the connector. Therefore, to ensure we’re meeting market demands, we will conduct further analysis of customer needs before delivering a connector between Microsoft Dynamics CRM to all 4 Microsoft Dynamics ERP products. We will update you when we have more information to share.
Cheers, Ross

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-05-02T01:38:45Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft Announces General Availability of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online in North America

Hi everyone,
This week Microsoft announced the "general availability" of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online for customers in North America. We have support for both CRM 3.0 and CRM 4.0 available via multiple channels from PSS for both customers and partners. Many customers have, through their Software Assurance, access to a number of support incidents (amounts vary by Volume Licensing program) that they may not be aware of.
In summary, the options are:

 E-mail Support
 Submit online
Submit request by phone call to 13 16 30

Response Time: 1 business day
Don’t wait on the phone! Submit a support request online.
Submit a support request by phone. Phone wait times will vary.

You may use these option if you have one of the following:

Software Assurance Agreement
Professional Contract
TechNet Subscription
MSDN Subscription
Microsoft Partner Program (MSPP)

To understand the full range of support channels and how to initiate a support incident, please look at these pages:

For Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?Gprid=9776
For Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?Gprid=12976

Cheers, Ross

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-04-15T05:17:06Z</dcterms:modified>

Announcing Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online...

What's in a name? Well you should know that the new Microsoft-hosted 'software + services' offering built on Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, has just been renamed from Microsoft Dynamics CRM Live to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online.
About 18 months ago, we announced plans to release an on-demand offering for Microsoft Dynamics CRM that is managed within Microsoft datacenters. This product is now in production with more than 500 early access customers and is moving into broad “open access” in the US and Canada in Q2 2008.
During this incubation phase the working name for our new on-demand product has been Microsoft Dynamic CRM Live. In recent months, Microsoft has launched the new Online brand, with tremendous investment in and focus around on-demand technology for business users. Whereas the Live brand is focused on consumers and small businesses, the Online brand is fully aligned with our existing Microsoft Dynamics CRM strategy of delivering outstanding solutions for small businesses, mid-market companies, and large enterprises. As a result, we will be launching our new on-demand service as Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online.
I should emphasise that this is a simply a name change; there is no change to our release dates, our target markets, our pricing and packaging, or any other aspect of our new service. It is still about to move into broad "open access" in the US and Canada only.
Links to recent coverage of this name change:

PC World: Microsoft Renames CRM Service
ZD Net Blogs: Microsoft to rebrand "CRM Live" as "CRM Online"
InfoWorld: Microsoft renames CRM Live to 'CRM Online'

Cheers, Ross

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2008-03-31T08:28:25Z</dcterms:modified>

Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 - "Business Application" Training Offer

We're seeing a growing trend of interest to combine collaboration technology like Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) with Microsoft Dynamics CRM & Microsoft Dynamics ERP deployments. Last week at Convergence (major Dynamics conference in the USA) the Dynamics CRM breakout session with the highest attendance was the one called "Microsoft Dynamics CRM and SharePoint: Better Together".
With this in mind, Microsoft Australia is pleased to let you know about a new training course designed to introduce Dynamics partners to SharePoint.
This is an instructor led “chalk & talk” training designed for Pre-sales Technical Consultants, Technical Consultants, Technical Project Managers, Architects and Business Analysts.
Topics covered in this 1 day course include:

MOSS Capability Overview - a brief discussion of the six major functional areas in SharePoint 2007.
Understanding the "MOSS Building Blocks" - a description of both the physical and logical components that make up a SharePoint solution. We discuss how they fit together and how you can combine these to ensure your solutions can scale to meet demand
A tour of the Central Administration site - gain an insight into how a SharePoint Farm is administered.
Applications, Site Collections and Subsites - explore the main components used to build any SharePoint site. Learn what capabilities are managed at each level.
Inside a sub-site - now that we understand the high level components we can get into the details of what makes up a subsite.
Search - we look into the rich functionality in MOSS to allow users to quickly locate content that exists inside and outside of SharePoint. We look at how the search capabilities are administered and what options are available to fine-tune the search engine to match your client's needs.
Web Content Management - we look at how SharePoint incorporates Web Content Management functionality.
Business Data Catalog - the BDC provides a framework to gain access to information stored in third-party products. Learn how SharePoint can make use of this content directly within its own environment.

Check out our event registration site for costs, dates and cities this training is coming to between April 4 -
